Hello! We hope that since you are reading this, you’re considering dropping in, becoming a member, or searching for a great community and some new friends. Either way, we hope we can help!

CrossFit Merak is owned and operated by Kelly and Zach Jones (learn more about the coaches, click here!). Kelly grew up in Normanna, just north of Beeville. She has deep ties to the community, and in her desire to contribute, the couple chose to open their small business locally. They are eager to share the same joy and awesomeness they’ve experienced in the CrossFit community with Bee County.

What is CrossFit? It is “constantly varied, high-intensity functional movement.” But what does this mean to you? It can sometimes sound intense and scary, but we promise you, it’s not! It means that workouts will be as intense as YOU make it. YOU are in complete control of your effort. We’d just love to help you on your journey.

CrossFit is absolutely, without a doubt, for everyone from small children to 80 year old grandmothers. Remember, everything new is scary at one point or another! That’s okay, because that’s what we’re here for. We simply want to give you a place to build the best version of yourself, whatever that looks like to you: do you want to be better at a sport? do you want to be able to keep up with your kiddos? keep up with grandkids? feel better at the beach? improve you overall health? focus on longevity? stave off the nursing home or moving in with your kids? The motivations are endless.

What can I expect next? Well, first things first, if you’ve never belonged to a CrossFit Box before, we’ll register you for a Foundations Class. There are a few reasons for this, but the most important one is: we want to get to know you! That’s the core of the Foundations Class, us getting to know each other. We want to know and understand your goals, what drives you, and what we as coaches can do to set you up for success. While we are doing that, you’ll be learning proper lifting forms, easing you into some workouts, and helping you understand the vocabulary of the box (first lesson, we say box instead of gym. you’re already one step closer to being a pro!). We would never just throw you into a class and have you fend for yourselves. We want to give you a good, solid foundation to ease you into regular classes.

What can I expect in a regular class?

A class typically runs an hour long and is in a group setting. The wonderful thing about CrossFit is, like we said above, it’s constantly varied; to paraphrase Forrest Gump’s mama, “you never know what you’re gonna get.” The class setting allows the community camaraderie to build, and we also hope that you find some lifelong friends here. That being said, all workouts will be posted on SugarWOD, and you’ll have access to all the information you need 24/7 so that you can be fully prepared for each class. The only thing we absolutely require is proper shoes to be worn in the gym (i.e. no flipflops or open toed anything). We work with weights and we’d hate for your little toesies to be squished!
